The idea of the Clay Club arose from the desire to help intermediate potters move beyond basic forms and develop in new directions. In this class, we will be building on the existing skills of the students and focus on implementing unexpected artistic elements into our work. The objective of this class is to broaden the horizons of what’s possible, spark curiosity, and find delightful ways to refine and elevate one’s signature style. This class will feature 1 simple wheel thrown assignment each week and will conclude with a day of glazing.

Take this opportunity to hone your throwing skills and gain confidence on the wheel. This introductory class will focus on setting achievable goals and working on foundational skills such as centering, pulling up the walls of a piece, and creating consistent cylinders. The class will also cover trimming and decoration techniques, as well as how to add handles and other charming flourishes to your creations. Whether you’re new to ceramics, or just needing a refresher, this class will set you up for success.
Price includes materials. There is no limit to the number of pieces each student can make and fire during this class.

Come learn the tips and tricks of selling pottery on Etsy. Valya will share all her experience successfully selling online since 2015. This short, uplifting lecture will cover what kinds of items to list to garner views, photographing your pieces, listing new items, and even packaging tips in preparation for shipping. Valya will answer all your questions and will leave no stone unturned. Get inspired to open your own Etsy shop—if only to help offset the expenses of your favorite craft!

Want to level-up your glazing? Take advantage of this member-only exclusive class and learn the secrets of working with Amaco glazes. Bring a notepad to write down winning glaze combinations that you will become your new go-to favorites. The instructor will bring in a selection of glaze samples to look at, strategize improving failed glaze tests, and cover various brush-on and dipping application techniques. As a bonus, the teacher will provide 3 fantastic combos of studio glazes that turn out fabulous every time. Please bring a medium-sized piece of bisqueware that’s sanded, waxed on the bottom and ready to glaze.

Saturday, August 2, 12:00 - 3:00 pm
Enjoy watching butterflies frolic in a butterfly bath that you made for them! This class will center around the construction of an attractive, functional butterfly bath using a soft slab technique. You can show off your creativity sculpting flora and fauna to decorate the bath and create perches for butterflies to access the water. The workshop will teach you masterful finishing techniques to show off your newly acquired level of skill. No experience necessary.
